Since opening in 1986, Johnny Rockets has existed somewhere between classic Americana nostalgia and pop-cultural fantasy, blending the spirit of the 1950s diner with the bold optimism of late 80s commercial culture. The work aimed to push the brand beyond familiar retro diner clichés, reframing it as something more cinematic, graphic, and culturally flexible while retaining the warmth that made it iconic in the first place.

Across major campaigns, illustration systems, murals, merch, digital and in-store creative, the focus was on building a more elevated and scalable visual identity. A modular mural system was developed for flagship locations, allowing each space to feel locally tailored while remaining part of a cohesive brand world. Bold typography, custom illustration, and layered environmental graphics helped evolve the brand into something more immersive and contemporary, balancing nostalgia with a sharper, more design-led point of view.
